How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Ingredients for Brown Rice- Sk Khazana Recipe

  • Basmati rice washed, soaked for 30 minutes and drained 1 1/2 cups

  • Onions thinly sliced 2 large

  • Ghee 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Cloves 4-5

  • Black peppercorns 6-8

  • Green cardamoms 3-4

  • Cinnamon 1 1/2 inch stick

  • Granulated sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander sprigs for garnish


Step 1

Heat ghee in a deep pan, add cloves, black peppercorns, green cardamoms, cinnamon stick and sauté till fragrant.

Step 2

Add onions and sauté till they turn a light golden. Add sugar, mix well and cook till the onions are caramelised.

Step 3

Add rice, salt and 3 cups water and mix well. Cover and cook for 15-20 minutes or till the rice is cooked completely. Take the pan off the heat.

Step 4

Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander sprig and serve hot.
