The cuisine of The United States is a rich amalgamation of peoples, religions and cultures thanks to the immigrants from different parts of the world.  They brought with them their local ingredients as well as cooking styles with them.  Yet amidst all these varieties Chinese and Italian cuisines dominate.  
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Vegetable Hot Dog Recipe

  • Hot Dog Buns 4

  • Potatoes peeled, mashed (leftover) 2 large

  • Paneer (cottage cheese) grated 200 grams

  • Raisins 1 tablespoon

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 4 tablespoons

  • Onion chopped 1 medium

  • Green chillies chopped 3-4

  • Oil 1 tablespoon

  • Red chillies crushed 1/2 tablespoon

  • Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Refined flour (maida) 4 tablespoons

  • Milk 1/2 cup

  • Bread crumbs 1 cup

  • TO SERVE

  • Onions chopped 2 medium

  • Lettuce shredded 1 bunch

  • Green chillies slit 4

  • Butter 2 tablespoons

  • English mustard paste 4 teaspoons

  • Mustard paste coarse 4 teaspoons

  • Tomato ketchup 4 tablespoons

Method

Step 1

Slit hot dog buns into half without cutting it into two. Soak raisins in warm water for some time before use. Heat one tablespoon of oil in a frying pan and sauté onion till translucent.

Step 2

Mix together paneer, potatoes, crushed red chillies, fried onion, green chillies, coriander leaves, garam masala powder, salt and raisins. Let cool. Make cylindrical shaped croquettes.

Step 3

Roll the croquettes in seasoned refined flour, then dip in milk and roll in the breadcrumbs. Keep them in the refrigerator for an hour or more.

Step 4

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai and deep-fry the rolls till golden brown and drain onto an absorbent kitchen towel. Apply butter on the inside of the buns, apply mustard pastes and place one spoonful of chopped onions.

Step 5

Spread tomato ketchup and arrange the shredded lettuce. Place the hot fried rolls, one in each bun. If you want you can put a whole green chilli. Serve immediately.
