Be a kid or a teenage or an adult or an oldie, chicken lovers trend all over the world at all times! One meat that is a favourite of all beyond belief! When cooked, it can be presented in many guises. Sauté it, fry it, toss it, bake it, steam it – eat it the way you want to. Whatever its form may be upon being cooked, its flavour may change but its flesh remains high in protein, low in fat and can be digested easily.

Ingredients for Toad in a Hole Recipe

  • Chicken sausages 3-4

  • Eggs beaten 1 cup

  • Refined flour (maida) 1 cup

  • Milk 1 cup

  • Onion 1 medium

  • HP sauce 1 tablespoon

  • Crushed black peppercorns 1/2 teaspoon

  • Mixed herbs 1/2 cup

  • Oil 1 tablespoon

  • Salt to taste


Step 1

Preheat oven to 180 C.

Step 2

Put equal quantities of flour, eggs and milk in a mixing bowl and mix well to make a batter without any lumps.

Step 3

Dice the sausages and put them into six muffin moulds.

Step 4

Pour the egg custard into the muffin moulds and bake in the preheated oven for ten to fifteen minutes.

Step 5

To make the glaze, slice an onion. Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add onion and sauté for two to three minutes.

Step 6

Add crushed black peppercorns and mixed herbs. Add HP sauce and some water and mix and cook for a few minutes or till the mixture reduced slightly. Add salt and switch off heat.

Step 7

Remove the toad in a hole from the oven, pour the glaze over it, transfer onto a serving plate and serve immediately.
