Corn was indigenous to America, but is now grown throughout the world. It is used as a vegetable, briefly boiled or roasted or eaten with butter. And it would also interest you to know that the favourite popcorn, made by popping the small corn kernels, is a wholesome cereal food and is easily digested. Besides this, corn sees its use in various other ways – salads, soups, subzis and even sweets too!

Cook time : 11-15 minutes

Serve : 4

Ingredients for Pachole Recipe

  • Corn kernels 3 cups

  • Garam masala powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Ginger-garlic-green chilli paste 1 teaspoon

  • Gram flour (besan) 1/2 cup

  • Cornflour/ corn starch 2 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil for greasing

Method

Step 1

Coarsely grind corn kernels and put into a bowl.

Step 2

Add garam masala powder, ginger-green chilli-garlic paste, gram flour, cornflour and salt.

Step 3

Heat sufficient water in a steamer.

Step 4

Grease a plate with oil, put the corn mixture on it and spread evenly.

Step 5

Steam for fifteen to twenty minutes or till done.

Step 6

Cool and cut into squares. These are called pacholes.

Step 7

Heat oil in a non-stick tawa.

Step 8

Place the pacholes on it and shallow-fry, turning sides, till golden brown from both the sides.

Step 9

Serve hot.
