Ingredients for Old Fashioned Doughnuts Recipe

  • Refined flour (maida) 300 grams+ as required

  • Castor sugar 120 grams

  • Egg yolks 3

  • Butter 15 grams

  • Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

  • Sour cream 190 grams

  • Baking powder 1 teaspoon

  • Salt 1/2 teaspoon

  • Oil to deep fry

  • White chocolate , melted 1/2 cup

  • Dark chocolate , melted 1/2 cup

Method

Step 1

Take castor sugar in a bowl, add egg yolks, butter and vanilla essence and beat with an electric beater till light. Add sour cream and beat well.

Step 2

Sieve together refined flour, baking powder and salt directly into the above mixture and fold in till dough is formed.

Step 3

Wrap dough in cling film and refrigerate for 2-3 hours.

Step 4

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.

Step 5

Dust the worktop with some flour. Bring the dough out of the refrigerator keep on the worktop and roll out into ½ inch thick sheet.

Step 6

Coat a medium size cookie cutter with some flour and cut the sheet into roundels.

Step 7

Cut a smaller roundel from the center of each roundel with a small cookie cutter to shape them into doughnuts.

Step 8

Dust the excess flour from the doughnuts, slide into hot oil and deep-fry till golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 9

Dip a couple of doughnut in melted white chocolate and a couple in melted dark chocolate. Alternatively you can dip half side of a couple of doughnut in white chocolate, and half side of another couple of doughnuts in dark chocolate. Keep them on a wire rack.

Step 10

Serve.
