Ingredients list for Jain Brownies

  • 1 cup + for dusting Refined flour (maida)
  • ½ cup Cocoa powder
  • for greasing Ghee
  • a pinch Salt
  • 4 tablespoons Walnuts chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon Instant coffee powder
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • ? cup Melted butter
  • ½ teaspoon Vanilla essence

Method

  1. Preheat oven at 180ºC. Grease an aluminum baking tin with ghee and dust with some refined flour.
  2. Sieve flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, powdered sugar and coffee powder in a bowl, one by one.
  3. Take buttermilk in another bowl. Add butter and whisk well. Add this mixture to the flour mixture along with vanilla essence and whisk well into a smooth batter. Add 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts and mix well.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared tin and tap a little. Garnish with remaining walnuts.
  5. Put the tin the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat, cool and demould. Cut into wedges and serve warm.
