Ingredients 

  • 1 kilogram drumsticks cut into 1 ½ inch long pieces
  • 1 cup sesame oil (til oil)
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds (methi dana)
  • 1 teaspoon asafoetida
  • 1/2 cup garlic, chopped
  • 10 dried red chillies
  • 1/4 cup tamarind pulp
  • 2 teaspoons turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 3/4 cup red chilli powder

Method

  1. Heat two tablespoons of sesame oil in a non-stick pan.
  2. Add drumstick pieces, stir, cover and cook low heat for five to seven minutes stirring in between. Remove the drumstick pieces.
  3. Heat the remaining sesame oil in the same pan.
  4. Add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, asafoetida, garlic, red chillies, tamarind pulp, turmeric powder and salt, mix well and sauté for a couple of minutes.
  5. Add drumsticks and red chilli powder and cook till it thickens.
  6. Cool and store it in a dry glass jar.
