During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Brownies with Salted Caramel Sauce Recipe

  • Refined Flour 2/3 cup

  • Chocolate chopped 90 grams

  • Butter 1/2 cup

  • Eggs 2 large

  • Sugar 1 cup

  • Dark chocolate chips 1/3

  • Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

  • Cocoa powder 1 tablespoon

  • Salt 1/4 teaspoon

  • Instant coffee powder 1 tablespoon

  • Caramel sauce

  • Sugar 1/2 cup

  • Butter 2 tablespoons

  • Cream 2 tablespoons

  • Sea salt a pinch

Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 180°C. Place butter in a mixing bowl, add chocolate and melt in microwave.

Step 2

Break eggs into another bowl and add sugar. Take the butter-chocolate mixture out of the microwave oven and whisk well. Add dark chocolate chips and whisk till well blended.

Step 3

Beat eggs and sugar with a hand blender till light and fluffy. For sauce put sugar with 2 tbsps water in a non stick pan and cook till it begins to caramelise. Add vanilla essence to the egg mixture and continue to beat.

Step 4

Sieve refined flour, cocoa powder, salt and coffee powder into the egg mixture and mix lightly. Add the chocolate-butter mixture and mix well.

Step 5

Pour the batter into a silicon mould till half full. Keep the mould in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes. Take it out of the oven and let it cool.

Step 6

When the sugar for the sauce turns golden, add butter and mix well. Add cream and mix well. Take the pan off the heat and add sea salt and mix well. Pour the sauce over the brownie and serve
