How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Prep Time : 11-15 minutes

Cook time : 16-20 minutes

Serve : 4

Ingredients for Baby Uttapam Recipe

  • Rice soaked 2 cups

  • Split Black Gram 1 cup

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil to cook

  • For topping

  • Onion 1 medium

  • Green capsicum 1 medium

  • Tomato 1 medium

  • Mozzarella cheese grated 1 cup


Step 1

Drain and grind urad till fine and fluffy. Transfer into a bowl.

Step 2

Drain and grind rice till smooth. And transfer it into the same bowl and mix the two batters well.

Step 3

Set aside in a warm place to ferment overnight. Add salt and whisk well.

Step 4

Heat a non stick dosa tawa and spread small amounts of batter into small uttapams keeping a little distance between each. Slice onion and sprinkle a little on each uttapam.

Step 5

Slice green capsicum and sprinkle a little on each uttapam. Slice tomato and sprinkle a little on each uttapam.

Step 6

Sprinkle a little mozzarella cheese on each. Drizzle a little oil around each, cover and cook on medium heat till they get cooked and the cheese melts. Serve hot.
