Ingredients list for Thayar Satham
- 1 cup Rice
- 2 1/2 cups Ghee
- 1 Green chilli
- 1/2 inch piece Ginger
- 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
- 1 tablespoon Ghee
- a pinch Asafoetida
- 4 tablespoons Yogurt
- 2 Bay leaves
- a few sprigs Fresh coriander leaves
- to taste Salt
Method
- Bring the water to boil in a pan, meanwhile wash the rice thoroughly and drain. When the water starts to boil, add the rice and salt to taste.
- Cook for 10 –15 minutes or till the rice is done, drain off extra water if any. Put it back over the heat and cook for 3-5 minutes.

- Add sliced chilli and grated ginger, sauté. Then gently add the yogurt and cook for few minutes.
- Pour this mixture over the cooked rice, stir gently. Garnish it with chopped coriander.
