Ingredients list for Thayar Satham

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 2 1/2 cups Ghee
  • 1 Green chilli
  • 1/2 inch piece Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee
  • a pinch Asafoetida
  • 4 tablespoons Yogurt
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • a few sprigs Fresh coriander leaves
  • to taste Salt

Method

  1. Bring the water to boil in a pan, meanwhile wash the rice thoroughly and drain. When the water starts to boil, add the rice and salt to taste.
  2. Cook for 10 –15 minutes or till the rice is done, drain off extra water if any. Put it back over the heat and cook for 3-5 minutes.

  4. Add sliced chilli and grated ginger, sauté. Then gently add the yogurt and cook for few minutes.
  5. Pour this mixture over the cooked rice, stir gently. Garnish it with chopped coriander.
