Be a kid or a teenage or an adult or an oldie, chicken lovers trend all over the world at all times! One meat that is a favourite of all beyond belief! When cooked, it can be presented in many guises. Sauté it, fry it, toss it, bake it, steam it – eat it the way you want to. Whatever its form may be upon being cooked, its flavour may change but its flesh remains high in protein, low in fat and can be digested easily.

Ingredients for Steamer Chicken Recipe

  • Chicken cut into 12 pieces on the bone 700 grams

  • Yogurt 1 cup

  • Fennel seeds (saunf) 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Poppy seeds (khuskhus/posto) 1 teaspoon

  • Oil 4 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Ginger paste 1 tablespoon

  • Garlic paste 1 tablespoon

  • Turmeric powder 3/4 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Mustard oil 2 tablespoons

  • Vinegar 2 teaspoons

  • Potatoes quartered 2 large

  • Dried red chillies 2 tablespoons

  • Onions finely chopped 2 large

  • Cumin powder 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Coriander seeds 2 cup

  • Fresh coriander leaves finely chopped 2 tablespoons

  • Garam masala powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Ghee 1 teaspoon


Step 1

Dry roast coriander seeds, fennel seeds and poppy seeds till fragrant. Cool and grind to a powder.

Step 2

Heat oil in a non stick pan. Marinate chicken with salt, 1 tsp ginger paste, 1 tsp paste garlic paste, turmeric powder, ½ tsp red chilli powder, mustard oil, vinegar for 15 minutes.

Step 3

Add potatoes to oil in the pan, cover and sauté till light golden. Drain and set aside.

Step 4

Cut red chillies into small pieces and remove seeds.

Step 5

Pour the oil remaining from sautéing potatoes into another non stick pan, add red chillies and onions and sauté till golden. Add remaining ginger paste, remaining garlic paste, cumin powder, remaining red chilli powder and sauté.

Step 6

Add chicken and sauté on high heat for 3-5 minutes.

Step 7

Mix yogurt and ground powder and add to the chicken and mix well. Add potatoes and mix. Add ½ cup water and mix. Cover and cook.

Step 8

Chop coriander leaves and add and cook for 10-12 minutes or till the chicken is done.

Step 9

Add garam masala powder and ghee and mix. Serve hot.
