Ingredients list for Pulao Khichdi

  • 1 cup Rice soaked
  • 1/4 cup Split green gram skinless (dhuli moong dal)
  • 2 tablespoons Pure ghee
  • 2 Bay leaves, torn
  • 2-3 Cloves
  • 6-8 large Cauliflower florets, cut into small pieces
  • 1 1/2 medium Carrots, cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 6 French beans, cut into 1 inch diamonds
  • 1/4 cup Shelled green peas
  • 2 Green chillies, slit
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder

Method

  1. Dry roast the moong dal in a non stick kadai till brown. Heat the ghee in a pressure cooker.
  2. Add the bay leaves and cloves. Add the cauliflower, carrots and French beans and sauté till brownish in colour.
  3. Add the peas and mix well. Add the rice, green chillies, salt and turmeric powder. Mix well.
  4. Add the roasted dal and six cups of water.
  5. When the mixture comes to a boil, put the lid on and cook under pressure till pressure is released three to four times (three to four whistles).
  6. Serve hot.
