Ingredients list for Jamaican Fried Dumplings

  • 2 cups Refined flour (maida)
  • 4 tablespoons Margarine chilled
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • ½ cup Milk chilled
  • for deep-frying Oil


  1. Put flour in a bowl. Add margarine and rub with your fingertips till the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  2. Add baking powder, salt, sugar and milk and knead into soft dough. Cover with a damp muslin cloth and set aside to prove for ten to fifteen minutes.
  3. Divide the mixture into twelve small portions and shape into balls.
  4. Heat sufficient oil in a pan. Deep-fry the balls till golden and crisp. Drain on an absorbent paper.
  5. Serve hot.
