Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Green Chilli Besan Recipe

  • Light Green Chillies roughly chopped 1/2 cup

  • Gram Flour 3 tablespoons

  • Dark green chillies 1/4 cup

  • Oil 3 tablespoons

  • Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Onions finely chopped 3 medium

  • Ginger finely chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Garlic finely chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Soya granules soaked 1/2 cup

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Dried mango powder (amchur) 1 teaspoon

  • Thin strips of ginger for garnishing


Step 1

Heat 2 tbsps oil in a non-stick pan, add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add onions and sauté till translucent. Add ginger and garlic and sauté further for a minute.

Step 2

Add light green chillies and mix well. Add dark green chillies and mix well. Add drained soya granules and mix well. Add turmeric powder, salt and mix well. Cook for 4-5 minutes.

Step 3

Add remaining oil and gram flour and mix well. Add dried mango powder and mix well. Cover and cook on high heat till the gram flour is lightly browned.

Step 4

Transfer onto a serving plate, garnish with ginger strips and serve immediately.
