Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Chocolate Custard Kheer Recipe

  • Dark Chocolate chopped 1 cup

  • Rice 4 teaspoons

  • Milk 1 litre +

  • Rice soaked 8-10 tablespoons

  • Sugar 1/2 cup

  • Green cardamom powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Almonds blanched, peeled and chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Fresh cream For garnishing 8-10 tablespoons

  • Cherries For garnis as required


Step 1

Mix together custard powder and 1 cup milk and set aside. Heat remaining milk in a deep non-stick pan, add 2 cups water and rice and bring the mixture to a boil.

Step 2

Cook, stirring continuously, for 15-18 minutes or till the rice is completely cooked.

Step 3

Add sugar and mix well. Add green cardamom powder and almonds and mix well. Add chocolate and mix well. Add custard mixture, mix and cook, stirring continuously, for 5-6 minutes or till thick.

Step 4

Transfer into serving cups. Garnish with fresh cream, top it with cherries and serve.
