Ingredients
- 2 medium onions, sliced
- Grated processed cheese as required
- 4 white bread slices, edges trimmed, cut into 4 squares and toasted
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Salt to taste
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons toasted pine nuts
- Crushed black peppercorns to taste
- Fresh parsley leaves for garnishing
Method
- Preheat oven to 180˚ C.
- Heat butter in a non-stick pan. Add onions and salt and sauté till translucent. Add sugar and sauté till onion caramelises.
- Add pine nuts and crushed peppercorns and mix well.
- Place toasted bread squares on a baking tray. Spread some caramelised onion mixture and some cheese on top.
- Put the tray into the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes. Remove from oven.
- Serve hot garnished with parsley leaves.
