How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Cook time : 21-25 minutes

Ingredients for Popeye Pulao Recipe

  • Rice soaked and drained 1 cup

  • Spinach 250 grams

  • Oil 1½ teaspoons

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Onion sliced 1 medium

  • Garlic crushed 6 cloves

  • Green chilli sliced 1

  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Blanch the spinach leaves in hot water for 2 minutes. Drain and puree. Set aside.

Step 2

Heat the oil in a non-stick deep pan, add the cumin seeds and when they begin to change colour, add the onion and garlic and sauté till translucent.

Step 3

Add the spinach puree and sauté for about five minutes. Add the rice, green chilli, salt and two cups of water. Bring to a boil, lower the heat and simmer till the rice is done.

Step 4

Serve hot.
