Corn was indigenous to America, but is now grown throughout the world. It is used as a vegetable, briefly boiled or roasted or eaten with butter. And it would also interest you to know that the favourite popcorn, made by popping the small corn kernels, is a wholesome cereal food and is easily digested. Besides this, corn sees its use in various other ways – salads, soups, subzis and even sweets too!

Ingredients for Makai Ki Kheer Recipe

  • Sweet Corn 1 tin

  • Milk 1 litre

  • Rice soaked 2 teaspoons

  • Saffron (kesar) a few strands

  • Green cardamom powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Almonds 10

  • Sugar 1/4 cup

  • Pistachios chopped 10


Step 1

Drain sweet corn from the tin and rinse in fresh water.

Step 2

Heat milk in a deep non stick pan. Drain and coarsely grind rice with a little water. Add to the milk and mix well. Let it cook, stirring frequently.

Step 3

Coarsely grind sweet corn with a little water or milk.

Step 4

Add saffron and green cardamom powder to the pan, mix and cook till the rice is done. Slice almonds finely.

Step 5

Add corn and sugar to the pan and mix. Cook, stirring continuously.

Step 6

Scrape the mixture sticking to the sides of the pan and put into the pan and cook till the kheer thickens.

Step 7

Serve garnished with pistachios and almonds.
