The cuisine of The United States is a rich amalgamation of peoples, religions and cultures thanks to the immigrants from different parts of the world.  They brought with them their local ingredients as well as cooking styles with them.  Yet amidst all these varieties Chinese and Italian cuisines dominate.  
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Brownie Cheesecake Recipe

  • Refined flour 1 cup

  • Baking Powder 1 teaspoon

  • Dark chocolate 100 grams

  • Butter 90 grams

  • Castor sugar (caster sugar) 3/4 cup

  • Eggs 2

  • Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

  • Walnut kernels,chopped 1/2 cup

  • Oil for greasing

  • Filling

  • Gelatin 1 tablespoon

  • Unsalted cheese spread 225 grams

  • Yogurt 2/3 cup

  • Sugar 7 tablespoons

  • Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

  • Egg whites 2


Step 1

Preheat oven to 180°C/ 350°F/ Gas Mark 4. Grease an eight inch springform cake tin. Sift flour and baking powder. Combine chocolate and butter in a large microwave bowl and soften, uncovered, for minute on Microwave HIGH (100%) or alternatively melt it in a double boiler.

Step 2

Beat in sugar, eggs and vanilla essence and blend well. Add the sifted flour and walnuts and mix well. Pour the mixture into the prepared cake tin and bake in the preheated oven for forty five minutes.

Step 3

Allow brownie to cool in the tin. To make the filling, take gelatine in a bowl and add five tablespoons water and set aside for two to three minutes. Stand the bowl over a pan of simmering water and stir until the gelatine is completely dissolved. Set aside to cool slightly.

Step 4

Beat cheese spread, yogurt, sugar and vanilla essence together in another bowl till well blended. Add the dissolved gelatine and mix. Whisk egg whites in a clean bowl till stiff.

Step 5

Fold it into the cheese mixture and spoon it over the brownie base in the tin. Level the surface. Chill in a refrigerator for at least four hours or until set.

Step 6

Remove the cheesecake carefully from the tin and transfer onto a serving plate. Cut into wedges and serve.
