Mango Sasam

Very popular mango preparation from Karnataka, made with fresh ripe mangoes, coconut and tamarind, can be eaten on its own.

Ingredients

  • 1 large ripe mango
  • 1 cup scraped fresh coconut
  • 3-4 dried red chillies
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind pulp
  • Salt to taste
  • 1½ tablespoons grated jaggery (gur) 

Method

  1. Peel and chop mango. Take out the pulp from the seed part and reserve. 
  2. Blend together coconut, red chillies, mustard seeds, tamarind pulp, salt and jaggery with some water to a semi coarse paste. 
  3. Mix together chopped mangoes. Reserved mango pulp, prepared paste and salt in bowl. 
    Serve immediately.
