How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Cook time : 26-30 minutes

Ingredients for Thengai Arushi Adai Recipe

  • Rice 3 cups

  • Coconut scraped 1 cup

  • Sugar 1/2 teaspoon

  • Black pepper powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil 2 tablespoons


Step 1

Wash and soak the rice in enough water for 5-6 hours. Drain. Mix the scraped coconut and rice and grind it to a coarse batter.

Step 2

Add the pepper powder and salt. Mix well. Heat a griddle and grease it. Pour a spoonful of batter in the centre of the griddle and spread evenly.

Step 3

Pour 1 teaspoon of oil along the edges and cook till crisp. Turn and repeat the procedure. Serve hot.
