Ingredients list for Sweet Murukku

  • 5 cups Rice
  • 1 cup Split black gram skinless
  • 5 Green cardamoms
  • 5 Peppercorns
  • 1 kilogram Jaggery (gur)
  • to fry Oil

Method

  1. Pick, wash, both dal and rice. Spread them separately on absorbent towels and let them dry in shade. Powder them in a mixer. Coarsely powder cardamom and peppercorns and keep aside. Mix the dal-rice flour with sufficient water and form a stiff dough.
  2. Heat sufficient oil in a deep pan for frying. Put the prepared dough into a murukku mould and press spiral shaped fritters directly into hot oil. Fry till golden brown. Drain and keep aside. Boil jaggery with half cup water and make thick syrup.
  3. Add the powdered spices and mix. Break murukku into two and a half centimeter pieces and mix with the jaggery syrup. Grease your palm with oil and roll the mixture into balls. Leave to cool. Store in airtight containers.
