Grease a loaf tin with some butter and dust with some flour. Take butter in a mixing bowl and whisk with an electric beater till light. Add castor sugar gradually and whisk till fluffy. Break in eggs, one at a time, and whisk. Add vanilla essence and whisk again. Sieve together flour and baking powder into the bowl and fold in with a spatula. Add milk and mix well. Pour the batter into the greased tin and tap gently on the worktop. Keep the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes. Remove from oven, cool and demould.
