Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Potato Chakli Recipe

  • Potatoes 1/2 cup

  • Rice flour 1 kilogram

  • Green chillies 6

  • Fresh coriander leaves 1 medium bunch

  • Sesame seeds (til) 3 teaspoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil for frying

Method

Step 1

Pick and clean coriander leaves and wash well. Remove stems, wash and chop green chillies. Make a smooth paste of coriander leaves and green chillies using a little salt. Boil, cool and peel potatoes.

Step 2

Mash potatoes well and knead into a dough using the coriander paste and rice flour. Adjust salt and mix in the sesame seeds. Apply a little ghee on your palms and shape dough into a smooth ball. Break off portions and place in sev maker which has the star (chakli) plate.

Step 3

Gently press out spirals on small pieces of paper. Meanwhile heat oil till it begins to smoke. Drop the chaklis one by one and fry till golden and crisp. Drain onto an absorbent paper. Cool and store in an air-tight container.
