Paneer Chana Dal

Cottage cheese cooked with Bengal gram split and in fresh dry masalas. Serve this with any Indian bread of your choice. This is a Sanjeev Kapoor exclusive recipe.

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup split Bengal gram
  • 200 grams cottage cheese
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

FOR THE MASALA

  • 1 inch cinnamon piece 
  • 3 cloves
  • 3 black cardamoms
  • 2-3 black peppercorns
  • 1 bay leaf

Method

  1. Roast all ingredients for dry masala and grind to a powder. Wash and soak chana dal for three to four hours.
  2. Cut paneer into half inch sized cubes. Heat ghee in a kadai and deep fry the paneer cubes till golden. Drain onto an absorbent paper.
  3. Heat two tablespoons ghee in a pan and add masala powder. After two minutes add the chana dal, salt, red chilli powder and turmeric powder.
  4. Add a little water and cook on medium heat. When the dal is cooked, add sugar and lemon juice and stir.
  5. Mix paneer pieces and serve warm.
