Ingredients list for Dark Chocolate Sponge
- 1 cup Refined flour (maida)
- 1 teaspoon Baking powder
- 1/4 cup Cocoa powder
- 1/2 tablespoon Instant coffee powder
- 1 cup Butter softened
- 1 cup Castor sugar (caster sugar)
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla essence
- 3 Eggs
- 1/4 cup Milk
Method
- Preheat oven to 180ºC. Grease a baking tin.
- Sift refined flour, baking powder and cocoa powder together into a bowl and set side.
- Mix coffee powder andone fourth cup waterin another bowl to make a decoction and set aside.
- Put butter and sugar in a large bowl beatwith an electric beater forone minute. Add vanilla essence and eggs one by one and beat till light and fluffy.
- Add flour mixture to the butter and sugar mixture and fold in well. Add coffee decoction and mix well. Check the consistency of batter and add a little milk to get the required consistency.
- Pour the batter into the baking tin and bake in the preheated oven for thirty to thirty five minutes.
- Remove from the oven and transfer on a wire rack to cool.
- Use as required.
