Honeyed Sichuan Paneer With Sesame Recipe Card

A favourite with the vegetarians, paneer made from milk is quite common, especially paneer recipes are quite popular in the Indian subcontinent. You can make it fresh, chhena – an another version or just use the ones that are readily available in the market to prepare everything from simple snacks, curries, sabzis, mithais, desserts and the likes. An ingredient that can be relished in the raw form too – try serving it as a starter just sprinkled with a little chaat masala, black salt and chilli powder!

Ingredients for Honeyed Sichuan Paneer With Sesame Recipe
Paneer (cottage cheese) 1 inch cubes 400 grams
Honey 1/2 tablespoon
Sesame seeds (til) toasted 2 teaspoons
Cornflour/ corn starch 3 tablespoons
Soy sauce 1 tablespoon
Oil 2 tbsps + to deep fry
Ginger chopped 2 inch piece
Garlic chopped 7-8 cloves
Red chilli paste 2 tablespoons
MSG 1/2 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Pickled cucumber sliced 25 grams
Spring onion greens chopped 2 stalks
Method
Step 1
Mix one-tablespoon cornflour and one tablespoon soy sauce and roll the paneer cubes in it. Heat sufficient oil in a wok and deep fry till golden. Drain and place on an absorbent paper.
Step 2
Heat two tablespoons of oil in another wok. Add ginger and garlic and sauté for about half a minute. Add red chilli paste, MSG and salt. Add one and a half cups of water and bring the mixture to a boil.
Step 3
Add rest of the cornflour dissolved in half a cup of water and cook till the sauce thickens. Add fried paneer pieces and honey. Stir lightly. Add pickled cucumbers and spring onion greens and mix lightly. Garnish with lightly toasted sesame seeds and serve hot.
