Ingredients list for Devils Food Cake

  • 1 1/2 cups Refined flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Soda bicarbonate
  • 60 grams Butter
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 60 grams Cooking chocolate
  • 1/2 teaspoon Milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla essence

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF/Gas Mark 4. Grease a nine-inch round cake tin. Sift the flour together with baking powder, salt and soda bicarbonate.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one a time and beating well after each addition. Melt the chocolate in half a cup of boiling water.
  3. Cool slightly. Stir into mixture the egg mixture. Fold in the flour mixture, milk, lemon juice and vanilla essence, mixing gently till well blended.
  4. Pour into the greased tin and bake for about twenty five minutes. Remove from the oven and place the tin on the wire rack. Cool the cake in the tin.
