Spanish cuisine is the result of a great variety of cooking cultures that have been living together in Spain.  The different climates and ways of life of each region to have played their role.  Some of the main ingredients that make up Spanish food are vegetables, meat and fish. 
Over the centuries Spain has been invaded by Romans, French, Moors, Phoenicians who introduced new cooking styles and ingredients in the Spanish cuisine, but the Spanish food is also influenced by other cultures. Spaniards were the main colonizers of America, Columbus was Spanish!  
The discovery of the New World brought new essential ingredients to the Mediterranean gastronomy like tomato, potato, chocolate that are now commonly used in a lot of Spanish dishes.

Ingredients for Churros Recipe

  • Refined flour (maida) 1 cup

  • Castor sugar 3 tbsps + to deep fry

  • Sugar 2 tablespoons

  • Baking powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Icing sugar 3 tablespoons

  • Cinnamon powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Castor sugar (caster sugar) 1 cup

  • Chocolate sauce as required

Method

Step 1

Heat 1 cup water with 3 tbsps oil in a non-stick pan. Add sugar and stir till sugar dissolves. When the water is hot switch off heat.

Step 2

Add baking powder to refined flour and mix. Add this to hot water and mix fast till it forms a dough. Put the dough in a bowl.

Step 3

Heat sufficient oil in a deep pan.

Step 4

Mix icing sugar and cinnamon powder in a small container with a perforated lid.

Step 5

Put the dough in a piping bag fitted with a big star nozzle and pipe directly into hot oil, cutting off at every 2 inch and deep fry on medium heat till light golden.

Step 6

Spread castor sugar in a plate. Drain churros and roll in castor sugar.

Step 7

Arrange them on a serving plate, sprinkle some sugar-cinnamon powder mixture over them and serve with a bowl of chocolate sauce.

Step 8

Sprinkle icing sugar and cinnamon powder over the churros. Serve hot.
