During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Baked Papaya With Spiced Walnut Filling Recipe

  • Papaya peeled halved and deseeded 2 small

  • Walnuts grated 1 teaspoon

  • Lemon juice 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Oil sunflower 2 tablespoons

  • Ginger,ground 2 teaspoons

  • Cinnamon powder 2 teaspoons

  • Nutmeg,grated 1/4 teaspoon

  • Brown sugar 3 tablespoons

  • Walnuts,chopped finely 1/2 cup

  • Brown bread crumbs 1 cup

  • Yogurt 1/2 cup

Method

Step 1

Preheat oven at 190°C. Roll up four pieces of aluminium foil into thin sausage shapes and use them to hold the halved papaya in an ovenproof dish.

Step 2

Mix lemon rind, lemon juice with sunflower oil, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar. Stir in walnuts and breadcrumbs; mix until the crumbs are evenly moistened.

Step 3

Spoon the mixture into the halved papaya forming a heap. Bake for about twenty minutes, until the filling is browned. Serve hot with yogurt.
