The cuisine of The United States is a rich amalgamation of peoples, religions and cultures thanks to the immigrants from different parts of the world.  They brought with them their local ingredients as well as cooking styles with them.  Yet amidst all these varieties Chinese and Italian cuisines dominate.  
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Bacon and Cheese Stuffed Crisp Potato skin Recipe

  • Bacon slices sliced 8-10

  • Grated cheddar cheese 1/4 cup

  • Potatoes boiled 4 medium

  • Oil 1 tablespoon + for deep-frying

  • Garlic cloves finely chopped 10-12

  • Spring onion bulbs chopped 3-4

  • Salt to taste

  • Crushed black peppercorns 1/2 teaspoon

  • Spring onion greens chopped 3 tablespoons


Step 1

Preheat oven to 180º C.

Step 2

Halve the potatoes with skin, scoop out the flesh and mash. Reserve the shells.

Step 3

Heat one tablespoon oil in a non-stick pan, add garlic and sauté. Add spring onion bulbs and sauté well. Add bacon and sauté till it turns crisp.

Step 4

Add salt and crushed peppercorns mix well. Add mashed potatoes and cook on low heat for two to three minutes. Add spring onion greens and mix well.

Step 5

Place the reserved potato shells on a baking tray and blind bake them till crisp.

Step 6

Fill the potato shells with the bacon mixture generously and place them in an ovenproof dish. Top with cheese, put the dish in the preheated oven and bake for ten minutes.

Step 7

Serve hot.
