Protein Sandwich

Weight watchers delight, these sandwiches can even be enjoyed by those without any weight problems too. If one has to describe them in just two words, they are healthy and tasty. Tofu made from soya is very high in protein and ideal for growing children too.

Protein Sandwich

·         100 grams firm tofu, grated

·         8 brown bread slices

·         2 tsps olive oil

·         2 tsps butter + for applying

·         4 tsps finely chopped garlic

·         1 large onion, chopped

·         4 sprigs of fresh thyme, roughly chopped

·         20-25 button mushrooms, thickly sliced

·         Salt to taste

·         3-4 tbsps grated processed cheese

·         Black pepper powder to taste




1.      Heat olive oil and butter in a non-stick pan, add garlic and sauté till golden brown. Add onion, mix and sauté till translucent.

2.      Add thyme and mushrooms, mix and sauté on high heat for 3-4 minutes. Add salt and mix well. Transfer into a bowl.

3.      Add tofu, cheese and black pepper powder and mix well.

4.      Apply butter on 4 bread slices and place a portion of the mixture on top of each of them.  Cover with the remaining bread slices and apply some butter on top.

5.      Heat an electric sandwich griller. Place the sandwiches, 2 at a time, on it with the butter side facing up. Grill for 4-5 minutes.

6.      Diagonally halve the sandwiches, arrange them on serving plates and serve hot with tomato ketchup.
