Ever imagined what life would be without some meetha? The gulab jamuns, barfis, pedas, laddoos, modaks, halwas…you can say let the sugar substitutes rule but not everything is possible with substitutes! One of oldest flavourings and condiments used by mankind, this ingredient is an instant provider of energy. Also available in various types, sugar is either derived from sugarcane or beetroot.

Prep Time : 6-10 minutes

Cook time : 16-20 minutes

Ingredients for Shakkarpare - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Sugar 1 cup

  • Refined flour (maida) 750 grams

  • Oil 3/4 cup + to deep fry

  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Heat a non-stick pan, add sugar, 1 cup water, oil and salt, mix and boil till the sugar melts.

Step 2

Remove from heat and add flour, mix and knead to a semi-stiff dough.

Step 3

Divide the dough into equal balls and roll out each ball into a large disc. Cut out diamonds.

Step 4

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. Gently slide the dough diamonds and deep-fry on medium heat till golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper and cool.

Step 5

Put them on a serving plate and serve or store in airtight containers.
