By Sanjeev Kapoor 01 Apr 2016 in Recipes Course New Update Main Ingredients Rice, Lentils Cuisine Gujarati Course Rice Prep Time 16-20 minutes Cook time 26-30 minutes Serve 4 Taste Mild Level of Cooking Moderate Others Veg Ingredients list for Sabut Masoor Ki Khichri 1 1/2 cups Rice 1/2 cup Lentils 1 medium Onion 1 inch pieces Ginger 2-3 cloves Garlic 2 Green chillies 4 tablespoons Ghee 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds 5-6 Black peppercorns 2 Cloves 1 inch sticks Cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder to taste Salt Method Clean rice and lentils. Mix the two, wash and soak in four cups of water for ten to fifteen minutes. Drain and keep aside. Peel, wash and slice onion. Peel, wash and finely chop ginger and garlic. Remove stems, wash and finely chop green chillies. Heat two tablespoons of ghee in a thick-bottomed vessel, add cumin seeds, peppercorns, cloves and cinnamon and allow to change colour. Add onion and sauté for two minutes. Add ginger, garlic and green chillies and sauté further for half a minute. Add soaked rice and lentils along with turmeric powder, salt and four cups of water. Cover and cook on medium heat till done. Drizzle remaining ghee over cooked khichri and serve hot.
