How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Cook time : 26-30 minutes

Ingredients for Onion And Capsicum Uttappam Recipe

  • Rice soaked 2 cups

  • Split Black Gram soaked 1 cup

  • Salt to taste

  • FOR TOPPING

  • Onions finely chopped 2 medium

  • Green capsicums seeded and chopped finely 2 medium

Method

Step 1

Drain and grind the rice and dal separately, using a little water, to a smooth paste. Mix them in a deep vessel.

Step 2

Cover and keep the batter to ferment for a minimum of six to eight hours in a warm place.

Step 3

Take required quantity of batter in a bowl, add salt and sufficient water to get the desired consistency and mix well.

Step 4

Heat a non-stick tawa. Put a ladle full of batter and spread thickly. Sprinkle onion and capsicum and sprinkle a little water all around.

Step 5

Cover and cook on medium heat till the underside is done. Flip it over and sprinkle a little water around.

Step 6

Cover and cook till the other side is done too. Serve hot with tomato chutney.
