Lauki Raita

Spiced grated bottle gourd with creamy curd served as an accompaniment. Lauki is also known as bottle gourd, doodhi, ghia. Lauki raita is healthy and tastes delicious. Serve this as a side dish with any Indian flat bread or over the rice.

Ingredients 

  • 250 grams bottle gourd (lauki/doodhi)
  • 3 cups yogurt
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

Method

  1. Peel and grate lauki. Boil grated lauki with a little salt for five minutes.
  2. Drain out water and let the lauki cool. Whisk chilled yogurt and mix salt and red chilli powder.
  3. Add boiled lauki and mix well. Dry roast cumin and make a coarse powder.
  4. Serve lauki raita sprinkled with cumin powder.
