Ingredients
- 12 small green tomatoes, chopped
- 1 medium apple
- 1 inch stick cinnamon
- 1 black cardamom
- 2-3 black cardamom
- 2-3 black peppercorns
- 1 medium onions chopped
- 3-4 garlic cloves
- Salt to taste
- ¾ cup cider vinegar
- ½ cup sugar
Method
- Peel, core and chop apple.
- Tie together cinnamon, black and green cardamoms and black peppercorns in a piece of muslin cloth to make a potli.
- Place tomatoes, apples, masala potli, onion and garlic in a heavy bottom saucepan. Add salt, half the vinegar and one cup of water and bring this mixture to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for twenty minutes, stirring frequently.
- Remove the masala potli. Dissolve the sugar in remaining vinegar and add it to the mixture. Simmer, stirring, for twenty minutes
- Spoon the hot chutney into sterilized jars, cover and seal while hot.
