Ingredients list for Gingerbread House

  • 2 teaspoons Ginger powder
  • 460 gms + for dusting Refined flour
  • 160 grams Castor sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Treacle
  • 2 teaspoons Cinnamon powder
  • 200 grams Butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking powder
  • as required Chocolate sauce
  • for decorating Royal icing
  • for decorating Chocolate sprinklers
  • for decorating Chocolate wafer sticks
  • for decorating Colourful candies
  • for decorating Gummy toffees
  • for decorating Colourful chocolate candies

Method

  1. Preheat oven at 180°C.
  2. Heat a non-stick pan. Add castor sugar, maple syrup, treacle and 4 tbsps water. Mix well and bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Add ginger powder, cinnamon powder and mix well. Switch off the heat, add butter and mix well till the butter melts completely. Transfer into a bowl.
  4. Add refined flour and baking powder, mix and knead into a stiff dough.
  5. Dust the worktop with little flour and roll out the dough into a 6 mm thick sheet. Using a knife cut out pieces from the sheet for the house and prick the pieces with a fork so that they don’t puff-up while baking.
  6. Place the house pieces on a silicon sheet placed on a baking tray, put the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or till they turn golden. Remove from oven and cool to room temperature.
  7. Make little incisions on the base piece of the house so that the wall pieces can be fit into them. Scrape the sides of the wall pieces.
  8. Use chocolate sauce as a glue and assemble all the pieces into a house.
  9. Pour royal icing in a piping bag fitted with a nozzle and decorate the gingerbread house as per your choice. Finish the house by further decorating it with chocolate sprinklers, chocolate wafer sticks, colourful candies, gummy toffees, colourful chocolate candies and dust with icing sugar on top.
  10. Serve.
