Italian cuisine has developed through centuries of social and political changes, with roots stretching to antiquity.  Italian cuisine is simple and a number of dishes having only four to eight ingredients.  They rely mostly on the quality of ingredients rather than elaborate preparation.

Ingredients for Coconut Macaroons Recipe

  • Dessicated Coconut 1/4 cup

  • Egg whites 2 2/3 cups

  • Almonds 1 cup

  • Sugar 2/3 cup

  • Salt 1/4 teaspoon

  • Egg whites 4

  • Almond essence 1 teaspoon

Method

Step 1

Sieve flour. Chop almonds. Combine coconut, sugar, flour and salt in mixing bowl. Preheat oven to 325°F. Lightly grease baking sheets. Lightly beat egg whites. Remove from baking sheets immediately. Makes about two and a half dozen macaroons.

Step 2

Stir in egg whites and almond essence into the above mixture. Add the almonds and mix well. Drop from teaspoon onto the baking sheets. Garnish with coconut flakes if desired.

Step 3

Bake at 325°F in the preheated oven for twenty to twenty-five minutes, or until edges of the cookies are golden brown.

Step 4

Remove from baking sheets immediately. Makes about two and a half dozen macaroons.
