Ingredients list for Cholar Daler Murgi
- 1 cup Split Bengal gram (chana dal) soaked in water for 3-4 hours
- 750 grams Chicken breast cut into small pieces on the bone
- 2 tablespoons Mustard oil filtered
- 1 teaspoon Coriander seeds
- 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
- 2-3 large Onions finely chopped
- to taste Salt
- 1 tablespoon Ginger paste
- 1 tablespoon Garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Red chilli powder
- 2 medium Tomatoes finely chopped
- 4 Green chillies
- 3 Raw mangoes chopped with skin
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Garam masala powder
- 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
- 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander leaves chopped
Method
- Heat oil in non stick pan till smoking point. Lower heat and add coriander seeds, cumin seeds and onions and sauté till onions are well browned.
- Place chicken in a bowl, add salt, ginger paste, garlic paste, turmeric powder and 1 tsp red chilli powder and mix well. Add tomatoes to the pan, mix and sauté for 3-4 minutes.
- Add green chillies, chana dal and ¼ cup water. Mix well, cover and cook for 4-5 minutes. Add chicken, raw mangoes, salt, remaining red chilli powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder and 1 cup water. Mix well, cover and cook till chicken is soft. Garnish with coriander and serve hot.
