The cuisine of The United States is a rich amalgamation of peoples, religions and cultures thanks to the immigrants from different parts of the world.  They brought with them their local ingredients as well as cooking styles with them.  Yet amidst all these varieties Chinese and Italian cuisines dominate.  
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Chocolate Brownie Recipe

  • Dark cooking chocolate 100 grams

  • Refined flour (maida) 1 cup

  • Baking powder 1 teaspoon

  • Nutralite 90 grams

  • Castor sugar (caster sugar) 3/4 cup

  • Eggs 2

  • Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

  • Walnut kernels chopped 1/2 cup

  • Oil for greasing


Step 1

Preheat oven to 180 C/ 350 F/ Gas Mark 4. Grease an eight-inch square cake tin.

Step 2

Sift flour and baking powder.

Step 3

Combine chocolate and Nutralite in a large microwave bowl and soften, uncovered, in the microwave for a minute or melt it in a double boiler.

Step 4

Beat in sugar, eggs and vanilla essence and blend well. Add the sifted flour and walnuts and mix well.

Step 5

Pour the mixture into the prepared cake tin and bake in the preheated oven for forty five minutes.

Step 6

Place on a wire rack to cool. Cut into squares and serve with tea or coffee.
