Ingredients

  • 1 cup barley, soaked overnight
  • ½ cup salted peanuts
  • 2 tbsps oil 
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4 green cardamoms 
  • 5 black cardamoms
  • 15-20 black peppercorns
  • 1 inch cinnamon stick
  • 5 garlic cloves, mashed
  • 1 inch ginger piece, cut into thin strips
  • 2 medium onions, cubed
  • 4-5 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 2 medium carrots, cubed
  • 1 cup frozen green peas
  • Salt to taste

Method

  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add bay leaves, green cardamoms, black cardamoms, black peppercorns, cinnamon and sauté till fragrant.
  2. Add garlic and ginger and sauté for ½ minute. Add onions, green chillies and sauté. Add carrots, peanuts, green peas, barley, salt and mix well.
  3. Add 4 cups hot water, cover and cook upto 4 whistles on high heat. Reduce heat to low and cook for 10-12 minutes.
  4. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
