The cuisine of The United States is a rich amalgamation of peoples, religions and cultures thanks to the immigrants from different parts of the world.  They brought with them their local ingredients as well as cooking styles with them.  Yet amidst all these varieties Chinese and Italian cuisines dominate.  
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Sticky Toffee Pudding Recipe

  • Dates chopped 1 1/2 cups

  • Refined Flour 3

  • Sugar 1 cup

  • Baking soda 1 teaspoon

  • Vanilla essence a few drops

  • Refined flour (maida) 1 1/2 cup

  • Baking powder 1 teaspoon

  • Salt a pinch

  • Butter 1/4 cup

  • Brown sugar 1 cup

  • Thick cream 1/2 cup

  • Honey 1/4 cup

Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 180°C. Boil 1¼ cups water in a deep non-stick pan, add dates and cook till soft.

Step 2

To make the toffee sauce, heat butter in another non-stick pan. Add brown sugar, cream and honey, mix well and cook till sugar melts. Remove from heat and set aside. Combine butter and sugar in a bowl.

Step 3

Add baking soda to dates, mix and switch off heat. Cool to room temperature.Break 2 eggs and add to the butter-sugar mixture and mix well. Add vanilla essence and mix again.

Step 4

Combine refined flour, baking powder and salt and sift half of it into egg mixture. Mix well.Add half the dates and mix well. Sift remaining flour mixture into it and mix well. Add remaining cooked dates and mix well.

Step 5

Break remaining egg into it and mix again. Pour the batter into a silicon mould, place in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes.

Step 6

Remove from oven and demould. Cut into slices, pour the toffee sauce on it and serve warm.
