The cuisine of The United States is a rich amalgamation of peoples, religions and cultures thanks to the immigrants from different parts of the world.  They brought with them their local ingredients as well as cooking styles with them.  Yet amidst all these varieties Chinese and Italian cuisines dominate.  
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Smoersnuk Recipe

  • Salted and smoked snuk 500 grams

  • Texan spices 2 tablespoons

  • Olive oil 4 tablespoon

  • Onions sliced 3 medium

  • Chicken stock powder 1 tablespoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Potatoes boiled and sliced 2 medium

  • Black pepper powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Dried mixed herbs 1 tablespoon

  • Lemon juice 1 tablespoon

Method

Step 1

De-bone and shred the snuk fish. Keep aside. Heat olive oil and spread all over the skillet.

Step 2

Add onions and stir-fry on high heat till light brown. Add Texan spices, chicken stock powder or chicken cube, paprika or red chilli powder and turmeric powder.

Step 3

Mix well. Add potatoes and shredded snuk and mix. Add black pepper powder, salt and dried mixed herbs.

Step 4

Toss to mix well. Finish with freshly squeezed lemon juice and serve.
