The cuisine of The United States is a rich amalgamation of peoples, religions and cultures thanks to the immigrants from different parts of the world.  They brought with them their local ingredients as well as cooking styles with them.  Yet amidst all these varieties Chinese and Italian cuisines dominate.  
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Prawns Provencale Recipe

  • Prawns shelled and deveined 12-16

  • Lemon Juice 2 teaspoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Onions finely chopped 2 medium

  • Garlic finely chopped 6-8 cloves

  • Parsley 1 bunch

  • Tomatoes blanched, peeled and chopped 6-7 medium

  • Olive oil 1 teaspoon

  • Bay leaf 1

  • Black peppercorns crushed 1/2 teaspoon

Method

Step 1

Marinate the prawns with lemon juice and a little salt preferably in the refrigerator till required. Reserve a few sprigs of parsley for garnish and finely chop the remaining. Heat olive oil in a non-stick pan, add bay leaf and garlic and stir fry for half a minute.

Step 2

Add onions and cook on medium heat, stirring continuously, till onions turn transluscent. Add tomatoes and three fourth cup of water, cover and cook on medium heat for five minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 3

Add marinated prawns, salt and crushed peppercorns. Stir and cook over medium heat for three to four minutes or till prawns are just cooked. Add chopped parsley and mix well. Serve hot garnished with the reserved parsley sprigs.
