By Sanjeev Kapoor 04 Mar 2017 in Recipes Course New Update Main Ingredients Masoor Dal, Rice Cuisine Middle Eastern Course Rice Prep Time 11-15 minutes Cook time 51-60 minutes Serve 4 Taste Mild Level of Cooking Moderate Others Veg Ingredients list for Mjadarah 1 cup Masoor Dal rinsed 1 cup Rice soaked and drained to taste Salt to taste Black peppercorns 1/2 teaspoon Cumin powder 2 tablespoons Ghee 4 medium Onions sliced Method Put lentils in a deep pan, add three and a half cups of water and bring to the boil for a few seconds. Let them simmer for twenty minutes. Add salt, pepper, cumin powder and drained rice. Continue to simmer, covered, for twenty more minutes. Meanwhile, heat the ghee in a separate pan. Fry onions till dark brown. Remove the onions with a slotted spoon and set aside. Add the used ghee to the lentil mixture, stir gently and cook for five more minutes. Empty into a dish, cover with the fried onions. Serve hot or cold with salad or yogurt.
