The cuisine of The United States is a rich amalgamation of peoples, religions and cultures thanks to the immigrants from different parts of the world.  They brought with them their local ingredients as well as cooking styles with them.  Yet amidst all these varieties Chinese and Italian cuisines dominate.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Mississippi Mud Pie Recipe

  • Chocolate

  • Butter 1

  • For filling

  • Chocolate 85 grams

  • Butter 80 grams

  • Golden syrup 3 tablespoons

  • Egg beaten 3

  • Sugar 2/3 cup

  • Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

  • FOR DECORATION

  • Chocolate 100 grams

  • Whipping cream 2 cups

Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 220°C/425°F/Gas Mark 7. Roll out the pastry dough on a lightly floured surface. Line a nine inch pie dish with it gently easing it in so that the dough does not get stretched. Using your thumbs make a fluted edge.

Step 2

Prick the bottom and the sides of the pastry with a fork. Chill in a refrigerator for ten minutes. Blind bake in the preheated oven for ten to fifteen minutes or until lightly browned. Let it cool in the pan itself.

Step 3

For the filling, melt chocolate with butter and golden syrup in a double boiler or alternatively melt for a minute on Microwave HIGH (100%) Stir in eggs, sugar and vanilla essence. Reduce the oven temperature to 175°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4.

Step 4

Pour the chocolate mixture into the baked crust and bake for one hour or until the filling is set. Let it cool completely in the dish. Slightly soften the chocolate bar between your palms. Using a vegetable peeler along the sides of the chocolate bar make short, wide curls.

Step 5

Chill them in a refrigerator till needed. Lightly whip the cream until soft peaks form. Using a rubber spatula spread the cream over the surface of the chocolate filing. Decorate with the chocolate curls and serve immediately.
