Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Lauki Lajawaab Recipe

  • Bottle gourd 600 grams

  • Tomato 2 tablespoons

  • Onion chopped 1 cup

  • Garlic paste 1 tablespoon

  • Tomatoes 2 medium

  • Red chilli powder 1 tablespoon

  • Coriander powder 1 tablespoon

  • Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste


Step 1

Peel white pumpkin, cut lengthwise, remove seeds and cut into one centimeter small pieces. Heat oil, add onions and sauté until soft.

Step 2

Add ginger, garlic paste, stir and add tomatoes, red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt. Cook for some time. Add white pumpkin, mix well.

Step 3

Add approximately three cups of water and cook until white pumpkin is cooked and masala is thick. Serve hot.
