Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Hot Pepper Drink Recipe

  • Black peppercorns 20

  • Dry red chilies 6

  • Fenugreek seeds (methi dana) 1/4 teaspoon

  • Cumin seeds 1/4 teaspoon

  • Coriander seeds 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Garlic 4 cloves

  • Salt to taste

  • Tamarind pulp 1 tablespoon

  • Coconut oil 1 teaspoon

  • Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Curry leaves 6-8

  • Small onions 6


Step 1

Boil five cups of water along with salt in deep pan. Crush peppercorns, fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, garlic and red chillies and add to the pan along with the tamarind pulp. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for fifteen to twenty minutes.

Step 2

Allow it to cool, and strain through a fine sieve. To temper heat coconut oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add curry leaves and onions and sauté for another four to five minutes. Add this to the prepared drink. Serve hot.
