Ingredients list for Vanilla Cupcakes with Nutella Frosting

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Refined Flour
  • 1 1/4 cup Buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup Butter softened
  • 3/4 cup Castor sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Cornflour
  • A pinch baking powder
  • A pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup Buttermilk
  • for greasing Oil
  • for dusting Icing sugar
  • for decoration Chocolate chips
  • Frosting
  • 1/2 cup Nutella
  • 2/3 cup Icing sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons Double cream


  1. Preheat oven at 180°C.
  2. Combine butter, sugar and vanilla essence in a bowl and beat well till smooth and creamy. Divide the mixture into two parts and reserve one for frosting.
  3. Add eggs to the remaining part and beat well.
  4. Add refined flour, cornflour, baking powder and salt and beat again.
  5. Add buttermilk, little by little and beat well till light and frothy.
  6. Grease individual cupcake moulds with oil and pour batter in them filling ¾. Place them on a baking tray and put the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 15-18 minutes.
  7. To make frosting, take the reserved butter-sugar mixture in a bowl. Add icing sugar and mix well.
  8. Add cream and mix well. Add Nutella and mix well. Beat well with an electric beater.
  9. Remove cupcakes from the oven and demould. Cool to room temperature.
  10. Pour the frosting into a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle.
  11. Pipe out portions on the cupcakes and place them on a serving platter. Dust icing sugar on top and sprinkle some chocolate chips.
  12. Serve immediately.
